Holiday Club 2008Holiday Club is over for another year and so now it is time for the annual review of what went on. The program was full of all the usual activities for the children to take part in as well as some new additions. The daily program looked something like this:
9.15 Team Bible study and prayer 9.45 Team briefing and final preparation 9.50 Registartion begins 10.00 Personal Best: Group together time 10.10 Grandstand 10.35 On the pitch: games, crafts, baking and Jo JIngles 11.05 Half-time refreshments 11.15 Grandstand 11.45 Grandstand 12.15 Children leave As you can see the program was very busy and packed with lots for the children to get to grips with. The theme for holiday club was sports and so this gave us an opportunity to be really active this year. It was a really successful week with everyone haveing a great time. Our thanks go to the team for making the week such a success! A Personal Reflection Well, another year rolls around and so does the Colinton Mains and Craiglockhart Holiday Club. This is the sixth year that the club has been running and so it would be easy to think that it was all planned months in advance and that there was no last minute rush to get the things we had forgotten to do done. You would, however be wrong. As always there were one or two small things still to be finished before the week started. They were, however, finished and so on Monday morning we were all ready for another fantastic week of holiday club. The team was assembled and the hall was decked out in all sorts of strange and wonderful ways. The theme for the holiday club changes each year and this year was a sporting theme. All the activities, crafts, decorations and teaching are based on the sporting theme and so it is a great chance for the children to get involved in what is going on. As the children arrived on Monday morning there was a real sense of excitement at the week that lay ahead. The holiday club is always very well attended and this year was no exception. 79 children signed up during the week, which is a fantastic number. The first day of holiday club is always a bit hectic as the team and children get used to the program but, as always, it went without a hitch. The rest of the week was the same. The usual activities took place; games, crafts, baking, Jo Jingles. The singing was excellent as were the newly extended holiday club band, or the ‘sweatband’ as they were christened this year. The drama, which is always a highlight of the week, was brilliant yet again. An important part of holiday club is always the Christian aspect to it. It is an essential part of the week and is the reason that the holiday club takes place. For many of the children that come along it is a rare opportunity to hear the gospel explained in a clear and relevant way. The teaching this year was based on passages in Luke’s gospel and was all about being a part of Jesus team. Group time follows, where the children get to delve deeper into the Bible. A new feature of the program this year was an interview with a team member exploring a bit more about personal faith affects your life. This is my sixth year at holiday club and, as always, it was a brilliant week. I gretaly enjoy being part of the holiday club team and having a role on the planning team with Gordon, Angie and Ian. I feel very privilaged to be in a position to share the good news of Jesus Christ with children and young people...and to play messy games along the way! |
