Sun 1: ‘Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness’. Give thanks to God that he is beautiful in his holiness and pray that his splendor may fill our sight and overwhelm our hearts.
Mon 2: pray for all those we know who do not know Jesus as their Saviour and Lord, pray that God would make Jesus known to them and that they would follow him.
Tue 3: pray for the Presbytery of Edinburgh meeting this evening, may God use the work of the Presbytery to make Jesus known throughout our city.
Wed 4: pray for our Kirk Session meeting this evening, give thanks for our elders and pray that God will guide them in all their discussions and decisions.
Thu 5: pray for all the vacant congregations in our city and nation, pray that God would call his people to service in ministry.
Fri 6: pray for businesses in our city and nation during this time of lockdown restrictions, pray that they will be able to survive this difficult time providing services and employment for many.
Sat 7: pray for the work and service of Street Pastors in our city and other cities in our nation. Pray for those supported and helped by Street Pastors this evening.
Sun 8: ‘He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty’. Give thanks to our God whose sheltering arms are large enough to gather us all under their sheltering protection.
Mon 9: pray for planning and preparations being made for the celebration of Christmas in our congregation. Even with present restrictions pray that we will know times to journey through Advent and come to the joy of Christmas time.
Tue 10: pray for all the residents and staff at Northcare Manor, and other care homes, pray for safety from Covid infection and for the presence of God to be known in our care homes.
Wed 11: today as we remember those who died in time of war, pray for peace in our troubled world, pray for those who still have memories of those who did not come home and who find this day especially difficult.
Thu 12: give thanks for Her Majesty our Queen and all members of the Royal family, pray that God would bless them in their service in our nation.
Fri 13: give thanks for opportunities to pray and for our great God who loves to hear and answer our prayers.
Sat 14: pray for all those feeling lonley in these days when we can’t visit one another, when it isn’t so easy to be out and about. Give thanks for phone calls and zoom meetings when we can encourage one another.
Sun 15: ‘Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory!’ Give thanks that our holy God fills every part of creation with the presence of his glory. Pray that we will all know the presence of God with us today.
Mon 16:  let us pray for our Governments at Holyrood and Westminster, for wisdom in making decisions and for confident and clear leadership during this time of pandemic.
Tue 17: give thanks for opportunities to meet in small groups to study God’s word, to pray and encourage one another.
Wed 18: pray for the working teams in our congregation, may God use their service to build his work among us.
Thu 19: pray for all who work in our emergency services, police, ambulance and fire brigade, give thanks for their devotion to duty.
Fri 20: pray for the work of the Bethany night shelter at this time of year, pray for all who are homeless and depend upon the shelter.
Sat 21: pray for the persecuted church today, for so many who are suffering because of their faith in Jesus, may they know God’s love and presence with them.
Sun 22: give thanks for our Guild branch as we share in the dedication of the Guild branch in our service today. Pray for all the members of our Guild as they meet this session by zoom.
Mon 23: give thanks for the food bank at Holy Trinity Wester Hailes, pray for all who come along that they would receive food and friendship.
Tue 24: pray for the Edinburgh City Mission prayer evening we are hosting tonight at 8 pm, give thanks for this time to pray together and pray for Duncan Cuthill leading this prayer gathering tonight.
Wed 25: pray for our book groups this evening, give thanks for the opportunity to read and discuss a book on Radical Gratitude by Peter Maiden. Pray that God may give us grateful hearts in these days.
Thu 26: pray for our doctors and nurses and all the staff in our hospitals and GP surgeries, pray that they may be able to continue with non—Covid related care for patients and that the numbers of Covid patients will not overwhelm the staff and resources of our hospitals.
Fri 27: pray for our schools, for all teachers and staff and for all pupils. Pray that our pupils may be learning during this challenging terms and that all in our schools will be kept safe from this virus.
Sat 28: pray for those poorest nations very much affected by the pandemic in these days, give thanks for the ministry of Tearfund, Christian Aid and other agencies working to bring aid and relief to those in greatest need.
Sun 29: ‘Tell out my soul the greatness of the Lord’. Let us join in singing and praying Mary’s words today, giving thanks for the promise and hope of the Messiah’s birth.
Mon 30: as we enter this Advent season, pray for one another that God would give us times to reflect and pray as we journey towards Bethlehem, also pray that God would give us opportunities to speak of Jesus during Advent and the hope we have in him.
