Who We Are

Craiglockhart Church is a congregation of the church of Scotland. The Church of Scotland is a reformed church, Presbyterian in government and evangelical in doctrine.

The Church of Scotland is part of the universal Christian church. It worships one God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit and believes in te gospel of the sovereign grace and love of God wherein, through Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, incarnate, crucified and risen, he freely offers to all upon repentance and faith, forgiveness of sins, renewal by the Holy Spirit and eternal life. He calls upon them to work in the fellowship of faith for the advancement of the Kingdom of God throughout the world. The Church of Scotland acknowledges the Word of God, contained in the Old and New Testaments to be the suprme rule of faith and life.

As a presbyterian church we are governed locally by a Kirk Session, men and women called out of the congregation to provide leadership to the congregation. Elders are ordained for life. There is also a Congregational Borad consisting of twenty elders elected by the Session and twenty members of the congregation elected by the Annual Meeting of the congregation each March. It is responsible for finance and property matters.

Craiglockhart is part of the Presbytery of Edinburgh and sends commissioners to the General Assembly, the church's highest court.

At Craiglockhart we have a concern not only for the people who live in the parish but for the work of God throughout the world. We have expressed our aims in the following statement.

Our Aim

Is to build a biblical community, united in its worship and service. A church using its gifts to: Care for its members, Grow in its faith, Reach out with the gospel to people of all ages within the parish, and to show concern for God's work worldwide.
