Music at Craiglockhart

‘When you sing a prayer, you pray it twice.’

Our congregational worship on Sunday mornings is enriched by an uplifting blend of musical styles: contemporary songs are sung alongside traditional hymns which have stood the test of time. We are supported by organ and SATB choir. Our choir forms a vitally important part of church life through music ministry and community outreach.

Craiglockhart Parish Church Choir

We are a friendly and enthusiastic group who work together to lead praise and glorify God. We meet for rehearsal between September and Easter on Thursdays at 7pm. Our rehearsals are relaxed and casual evenings offering you the chance to meet with others and sing together. As well as learning service music, we work on musicianship skills through vocal exercises and ear-training games, with an all-important break in the middle for coffee and a chat! The introit and anthem are carefully selected for each week to offer variety and a challenging yet fun contribution to worship. Our repertoire ranges from the Renaissance to 20th Century works.

Being a member of a choir is beneficial in many ways: it reduces stress, depression, and anxiety, lowers blood pressure, improves memory and concentration, and strengthens respiratory muscles. We are always seeking those with a strong voice and a passion for singing to join our ranks. Previous choral experience is not necessary, and neither is the ability to read music, although the latter is desirable.

For further information or to express a desire to get involved, please speak to our organist, Ross, after a service or email office@craiglockhartchurch.org We also welcome contact from those willing to sing with the choir on an occasional basis, such as over the Christmas and Easter periods. In previous years, we have performed large-scale works such as Bach’s St. Luke Passion, Faure’s Requiem, Haydn’s Creation, and Stainer’s Crucifixion.
